GANDERBAL & BARAMULLA: Continuing the sustained drive against illegal mining and the unlawful extraction and transportation of minor minerals, J&K Police, in coordination with the Geology & Mining Department, intensified enforcement operations across Ganderbal and Baramulla districts, resulting in the seizure of multiple vehicles and the recovery of substantial penalties.
In Ganderbal, Police seized four tippers involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of mining material within the jurisdictions of Police Station Sonamarg, Police Station Lar, Police Station Ganderbal, and Police Post Shadipora. The vehicles were found extracting and transporting minerals without valid authorization, in violation of the prescribed norms. The vehicles were seized on the spot, and the matter was referred to the Geology & Mining Department, which imposed the requisite penalties under the relevant provisions of law.
Meanwhile, in Baramulla, Police, in coordination with the Geology & Mining Department, conducted a joint enforcement operation at Khore Sherabad on the banks of Nallah Ferozpora. During the operation, officials detected and seized a dumped stock of approximately 130 cubic metres of illegally extracted sand. The material was found to have been dumped by Aadil Rasool Mir son of Ghulam Rasool Mir resident of Khore Sherabad. The individual appeared before the joint team, admitted ownership of the seized material, and a penalty of ₹1,32,082 was imposed by the Geology & Mining Department, which was realised on the spot.
In a separate action during the same drive, Police also seized a tractor found illegally transporting mining material. The vehicle has been taken into police custody under the provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act for further legal proceedings.
J&K Police reiterated its commitment to curbing illegal mining and safeguarding natural resources through sustained enforcement measures. Such drives will continue across the districts, and members of the public are urged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting any instances of illegal mining to the nearest police establishment for prompt legal action.
