GANDERBAL: As part of its sustained drive against illegal mining and transportation of minerals, Police in Ganderbal achieved another significant success by intercepting 05 trucks transporting illegally extracted sand.

The vehicles, travelling from Kargil towards Ganderbal, were intercepted by a team of Police Station Sonamarg during routine checking. Upon inspection, the trucks were found carrying sand without valid authorization, in violation of the prescribed mining regulations.

The matter was immediately taken up with the Geology & Mining Department, following which all the 05 trucks were challaned and seizure orders were issued under the relevant provisions of law. A fine of Rs.17,425 was imposed on each vehicle by the Geology & Mining Department in accordance with the applicable rules.

J&K Police reiterates its firm commitment to curb illegal mining activities and protect natural resources. Such enforcement drives will continue across the district, and strict legal action shall be taken against individuals involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of minerals.
