SRINAGAR: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), in collaboration with Government Degree College (GDC) Ganderbal, successfully organized an awareness programme on Anti-Ragging Laws and Complaint Mechanisms on 16 April 2026 in the college conference hall.

The programme was moderated by Dr. Jamsheeda Akhter, Head of the Department of Urdu and NSS Programme Officer, who ensured the smooth flow of the session. Prof Fouzia Fatima, principal of the college, in her address, emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline, fostering mutual respect, and creating a safe and inclusive academic environment. She encouraged students to uphold ethical values and contribute positively to campus life.

The resource persons for the programme, Asima Khalis and Shaheena Ali, serving as Assistant Legal Aid Defence Counsels, delivered detailed and insightful lectures on various aspects of anti-ragging laws. They highlighted the legal framework governing ragging, the rights and responsibilities of students, and the institutional and legal mechanisms available for filing complaints and seeking redressal. Their sessions were informative, interactive, and well-received, with students actively engaging in discussions and gaining a clearer understanding of the subject.

Dr. Ravinder Kour, Convenor of the Discipline Committee and Head of the Department of Physical Education and Sports, played a significant role in the seamless execution of the programme. She also delivered the formal vote of thanks, expressing sincere gratitude to the resource persons for their valuable contributions, the organizing bodies for their support, and the students for their enthusiastic participation.

The programme was jointly coordinated by Dr. Jamsheeda Akhter and Dr. Ravinder Kour, whose dedicated efforts ensured its successful organization. The event served as an important initiative in sensitizing students about the legal and ethical implications of ragging, while reinforcing the commitment of the institution towards maintaining a safe, respectful, and disciplined campus environment.
