In loving memory of Dr. Priya Ranjan: A mentor who treated me like family

JAMMU: J&K BJP organized a two-day Chess Championship furthering Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of "Khelega India, Badhega India". J&K BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Sat Sharma (CA) along with former Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh, inaugurated the Chess Championship at BJP headquarters, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu.

BJP J&K Vice President Rekha Mahajan, General Secretaries Sanjita Dogra, Baldev Singh Billawaria, and Gopal Mahajan, All Cells Incharge Ved Sharma, Sports Cell Convenor Kuldeep Gupta, and other senior leaders were present.

The championship was organized by BJP Sports Cell with the active support of the All J&K Chess Association (JKCA). The championship features 32 players competing under the supervision of Chief Arbiter Arvindu Sharma.

Sat Sharma, while addressing the participants, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has transformed sports into a nationwide movement aimed at building a healthier, disciplined and confident generation. He said the BJP is committed to taking this mission to every section of society by encouraging youth to actively participate in sports and constructive activities.

Sat Sharma emphasized that the BJP considers 'Khelega India, Badhega India' a social movement rather than merely a sporting slogan. He announced that although this championship concludes in two days, the party will continue organizing similar sports events across Jammu and Kashmir to promote physical fitness, mental well-being, social harmony and youth empowerment. He added that the Modi government has created unprecedented opportunities, world-class infrastructure and a sporting ecosystem that is empowering India's youth.

Dr. Nirmal Singh said that chess develops analytical ability, patience and decision-making skills while strengthening mental discipline. He stressed that participation in sports by people of all age groups promotes a healthy lifestyle, keeps the younger generation away from drugs and other destructive influences, and helps build a strong, progressive and self-confident society.

Rekha Mahajan said that youth engaged in sports are far less likely to fall victim to drug addiction, substance abuse, and other social evils. Sanjita Dogra said that sports are the strongest medium for overall personality development, instilling discipline and teamwork as spirit of sportsmanship. Baldev Singh Billawaria reiterated the commitment to strengthen the social campaign envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Gopal Mahajan said that sports create responsible citizens, strengthen society and contribute to nation-building. Ved Sharma reiterated the Sports Cell's commitment to organizing more sporting events in the future. Kuldeep Gupta thanked the participants and the dignitaries for the successful event.
