In loving memory of Dr. Priya Ranjan: A mentor who treated me like family

BUDGAM: District Red Cross society Budgam in collaboration with Government Degree College (GDC) Khansahib, today organised a seminar on Drug de-addiction awareness programme.

The event aimed to sensitize the younger generation about the catastrophic socio-economic and medical consequences of drug addiction. It witnessed enthusiastic participation from hundreds of college students, faculty members, and dedicated volunteers of the Red Cross Society.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Khansahib, Jahangir Giri attended the event as the chief guest. He said that there is a  need for early intervention, vigilant parenting, and aggressive community level participation.

“Youth are the backbone of our nation, and we cannot allow drug abuse to derail their future. The administration is adopting a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking, but enforcement must be met with community awareness. Every student here must act as an ambassador for a drug-free society," the SDM stated.

The Principal of GDC Khansahib, who was also a key speaker, welcomed the initiative taken by the District Red Cross Society. Highlighting the role of educational institutions, the Principal emphasized that academic spaces must foster resilience and offer psychological support to vulnerable students. The Principal urged the student body to channel their energy into sports, creative arts, and social work through platforms like the Red Cross.

Representatives and members of the District Red Cross Society also spoke on the occasion, highlighting the various counseling resources, rehabilitation pathways, and support systems available in the district for individuals seeking a way out of addiction.
