JAMMU: In a significant step towards strengthening grassroots healthcare and ensuring early detection of diseases, a massive free disease screening camp was organised at Ramnagar, Udhampur by Healing Hands in association with Seva Dal and Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences & Hospital. The initiative stood out as doctors and medical experts reached the doorsteps of people in remote areas, providing much-needed diagnostic and consultation services to those who otherwise have limited access to quality healthcare.
The camp was inaugurated by MLA Ramnagar Sunil Bhardwaj in presence of Rajinder Sharma, district vice president Seva Dal. The camp witnessed an overwhelming response, with nearly 1,400 patients, including men, women, senior citizens and youth from Ramnagar and adjoining areas, turning up for comprehensive health check-ups. The camp offered a wide range of free screening facilities including Fibro-Scan, Spirometry, Neuropathy testing, Bone Mineral Density (BMD), Blood Pressure monitoring, ECG, eye examination and blood tests. In addition to diagnostics, patients were also provided expert consultations and guidance by specialists, particularly focusing on lifestyle-related diseases which often go undiagnosed in rural populations.
The medical camp was led by noted Physician Specialist Dr Rajesh Gupta along with a team of eminent doctors including Dr Puneeta Gupta MD medicine Professor and head of department ASCOMS, Dr Neeraj Mahajan cardiologist, Dr Ankit Mahajan gastroenterologist, Dr Shally Kandhari ophthalmologist and their presence ensured that patients received specialised medical attention and accurate health assessments under one roof.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rajesh Gupta appreciated the efforts of Seva Dal and ASCOM for organising such a large-scale camp in a far-off area like Ramnagar, where healthcare facilities are relatively limited. He said that such initiatives play a crucial role in enabling early detection of diseases, allowing people to take timely preventive measures. He further stated that many patients are unable to afford expensive medical tests and consultations, and therefore such free screening camps are of immense importance in bridging the healthcare gap.
Other speakers on the occasion also lauded the initiative and assured that similar medical camps would be organised in more far-flung villages in the future to benefit the common people. The camp not only provided immediate medical assistance but also spread awareness about preventive healthcare, marking a meaningful step towards healthier and more informed communities.
