JAMMU: Parents and aspiring swimmers of Jammu and Kashmir today met Ms. Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, J&K Sports Council, and submitted a written representation highlighting long-standing issues related to swimming infrastructure and training facilities in the Union Territory.

During the meeting, parents and swimmers raised concerns over the prolonged non-availability of a functional swimming pool at MAM Stadium, Jammu, and emphasized the urgent need for a standard 50-metre swimming pool, which is essential for preparation and participation at national-level competitions. Ms. Nuzhat Gul assured the delegation that the swimming pool facility at MAM Stadium would be provided and made functional positively by the end of March 2026.

The issue of advanced and elite-level coaching for national-level swimmers was also discussed. The Secretary assured that a proposal would be forwarded to the Chief Secretary for engagement of elite coaches and implementation of advanced training programmes.

Parents and swimmers present at the meeting included Adv. Chethan Prabhakar, Roohi Parvez, Meenakshi Salathia, Aryan Prabhakar, Musa Parvez, Manha Parvez, and Aanya Prabhakar. Parents expressed hope that timely implementation of these assurances would enable swimmers from the UT to perform to their full potential at national and international levels.
