In loving memory of Dr. Priya Ranjan: A mentor who treated me like family

BARAMULLA, HANDWARA: Continuing its efforts to strengthen police-public relations and promote community-oriented policing, Police organised Thana Diwas/Lok Darbar and PCPG meetings across Police Stations and Police Posts in the districts of Handwara and Baramulla under the ongoing Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan/Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.

The outreach programmes witnessed active participation from local residents, youth, students, senior citizens, traders and representatives of civil society, who interacted directly with senior police officers, Station House Officers and In-Charges of Police Posts.

During the meetings, participants raised various issues concerning public safety, traffic management, road connectivity, civic amenities, electricity, drinking water, sanitation, cybercrime awareness, tenant verification and youth welfare. Police officers patiently heard the grievances, resolved several issues on the spot and assured that the remaining genuine concerns would be taken up with the concerned departments for prompt action.

A major focus of the interactions remained the ongoing campaign against drug abuse. Police officers sensitised the participants about the harmful impact of narcotics on individuals, families and society, and appealed to citizens to actively support the anti-drug movement by reporting drug peddling, spreading awareness among youth and cooperating with law enforcement agencies in eliminating the menace from their localities.

The participants appreciated the initiative, expressing satisfaction over the accessibility, transparency and responsiveness of the police. They also reaffirmed their commitment to working jointly with the police to maintain peace, public order and a healthy social environment.

Police reiterated its commitment to transparent, accountable and people-friendly policing, stating that such community outreach programmes will continue to be organised on a regular basis to strengthen police-community partnerships and build a safer, more secure and drug-free society.
