JAMMU: RANGYUG organised a seminar-cum-theatre workshop for the students of PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, on Monday. The workshop, conducted under the guidance of Deepak Kumar, Director, RANGYUG, aimed to introduce students to theatre as a powerful medium for creativity, communication, confidence-building and holistic personality development.
As many as 40 students participated in the workshop, engaging in a series of interactive theatre exercises and experiential learning activities. Building on its successful theatre education initiatives in colleges and higher educational institutions across Jammu, RANGYUG has now expanded its outreach to schools. Over the years, the organisation has conducted theatre-based training programmes, workshops, internships and collaborative academic initiatives, demonstrating how theatre can serve as an effective educational tool beyond the stage.
The workshop at PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 marks another significant step in RANGYUG's mission to introduce theatre-based learning to younger students and nurture creativity from an early age.
During the workshop, students were introduced to the fundamentals of theatre, including voice and speech, body language, stage movement, improvisation, characterisation and creative expression. Through practical exercises, theatre games and group activities, they learnt to overcome stage fear, communicate effectively, think imaginatively, collaborate with others and express themselves with confidence in an engaging and enjoyable learning environment.
Speaking on the occasion, Deepak Kumar said that education should extend beyond textbooks and classrooms, and that theatre is a powerful medium for nurturing creativity, confidence and life skills among children.
"Theatre is not merely about acting; it is about learning through experience. It empowers children to overcome fear, communicate with confidence, think creatively, work as a team and develop empathy. These are the very competencies envisioned under the NEP 2020 for nurturing confident, innovative and socially responsible citizens. At RANGYUG, our endeavour is to take theatre beyond the stage and make it an integral part of school education so that every child gets an opportunity to learn, create and grow through the performing arts," he said.
Akash Gupta, Principal, PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1, Gandhi Nagar, appreciated RANGYUG's initiative and said that such workshops provide students with a valuable platform to develop confidence, communication skills, creativity and leadership qualities.
The workshop reaffirmed RANGYUG's commitment to promoting theatre as an educational tool in line with the vision of NEP 2020 and to make quality theatre education accessible to school children across Jammu Kashmir.
