RAMBAN: The Sub-Divisional Administration Gool today launched a comprehensive market inspection drive in the main market of Gool to ensure the availability of quality food items at approved prices during the holy month of Ramzan.
The inspection drive was carried out under the supervision of SDM Imtaiz along with Tehsildar Harjeet Singh, Block Development Officer (BDO) Gool Sadam Hussain, besides officials from line departments.
During the inspection, more than 40 shops dealing in different commodities were thoroughly checked by the inspection team. The officials inspected shops selling food items, vegetables, dairy products and mutton. Emphasis was laid on verifying the freshness of food items, proper storage practices and display of rate lists for the convenience of consumers.
During the drive, the authorities found several instances of violations of market regulation laws. Consequently, 07 challans were issued against erring shopkeepers and a penalty amounting to Rs 6,800 was imposed for non-compliance with the rules. Shopkeepers were strictly warned against unfair trade practices, especially during the holy month when the demand for essential commodities increases significantly.
