BARAMULLA, ANANTNAG: In a continued and intensified drive against illegal mining and transportation of minor minerals, police in Baramulla and Anantnag districts have taken stringent action against violators, resulting in the seizure of 20 vehicles, including 12 tractors and 8 tippers, during checking operations conducted at different locations.
In Baramulla, police intensified naka checking at Delina, where six tippers were intercepted while transporting mineral material without valid permission and requisite documents. The vehicles were found in violation of the prescribed regulatory requirements and were subsequently seized. The owners/operators have been fined under the applicable provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act and relevant rules, while further necessary action has been initiated.
Meanwhile, in Anantnag, police conducted checking during the intervening night as part of its ongoing crackdown on the illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals. During the operation, 12 tractors and 2 tippers were seized after being found involved in illegal transportation of minor minerals.
In connection with the violations, FIRs have been registered at different Police Stations of Anantnag district, and necessary legal action has been initiated. Further investigation and proceedings are underway.
J&K Police reiterated their firm commitment to preventing illegal mining and the unauthorized transportation of minor minerals, which not only violates statutory regulations but also causes significant damage to natural resources and the environment.
