• DC seeks focus door-to-door collection & waste recycling

POONCH: Deputy Commissioner Poonch Vikas Kundal convened a meeting here today in the DC Office conference hall to discuss the implementation of Sustainable Sanitation (Operation & Maintenance) policy. The initiative aims to improve waste management practices across the district and promote a cleaner, healthier environment for all residents.

At the outset, the Assistant Commissioner Development reported that there are a total of 178 villages in the rural areas of the district.  The Deputy Commissioner expressed confidence that with collective efforts, Poonch can set a benchmark for sanitation practices in rural India. He directed the Block Development Officers to work on door-to-door waste collection and ensure waste recycling. “This proactive approach is expected to significantly reduce litter and improve overall sanitation in the region” he added.

In addition to waste collection, the meeting also discussed long-term strategies for sustainable sanitation practices, including the construction of toilets and bringing about behavioural change through social movement. The Deputy Commissioner directed the officers and field functionaries of the RDD to prioritize the SBM Gramin, ensuring that cleanliness remains at the forefront of the district's agenda.
