JAMMU: The All J&K Passengers’ Welfare Association (AJKPWA) has expressed deep appreciation for District Magistrate Jammu, Mr. Sachin Kumar Vaishya IAS, following his prompt decision to initiate an enquiry into a recent tragic motorcycle accident at Panjgrain, Nagrota, which claimed the lives of three individuals.

In an official statement, Pt. R.C. Sharma, (journalist, RTI & Peace Activist), president- AJKPWA, emphasized the gravity with which the District Magistrate has approached this unfortunate incident. Sharma remarked that Mr. Vaishya's heart was profoundly moved by the tragic and untimely loss of life, reflecting a compassionate response to the community's grief.

Sharma further urged the J&K UT government to establish a dedicated committee tasked with investigating the causes of every road accident in the region over the past five years. He believes that such a proactive measure could pave the way for effective solutions aimed at reducing the frequency of accidents in Jammu and Kashmir.

Highlighting the exemplary leadership of DM Jammu, who also serves as the chairman of the District Road Safety Committee, Sharma articulated confidence that these actions could significantly mitigate the prevalence of road accidents. He called upon all district magistrates to follow suit and conduct thorough enquiries into recent accidents within their jurisdictions.

Additionally, Sharma recommended that the District Magistrate consider incorporating a diverse group of stakeholders from the transport industry into the committee, including representatives from the All J&K Passengers’ Welfare Association. He believes that a collaborative approach will be instrumental in developing concrete solutions to enhance road safety across the region.

The AJKPWA's call for comprehensive action reflects a growing concern for road safety in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the need for systemic change to protect lives on the roads.

It is pertinent to mention that the DM Jammu has constituted a committee headed by Assistant Commissioner Revenue Dr. Rajesh Kumar, tasked with ascertaining the cause of the accident within seven days. The committee will investigate whether any shortcomings—such as inadequate signage, improper gradient, or lack of mandatory safety measures—contributed to the incident. This committee comprises officers from various departments, including the Public Works Department (R&B), the Transport Department, and other enforcement agencies.
