UDHAMPUR: Chairman, District Legal Services Authority and Principal District & Sessions Judge Udhampur, Kalpana Revo, accompanied by Sub-Judge and Secretary DLSA Udhampur Sumati Sharma, conducted the quarterly inspection of the Prison Legal Aid Clinic and a jail visit at District Jail Udhampur.
The inspection reviewed the functioning of the Prison Legal Aid Clinic to assess the availability and effectiveness of legal aid services provided to inmates, focusing on ensuring eligible prisoners receive free legal assistance, legal awareness and timely representation under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.
The Chairman and Secretary interacted with inmates to ascertain grievances relating to legal aid, pending court cases, legal representation and other welfare concerns, and informed them of their legal rights and the availability of free legal services through the DLSA.
The jail premises were also inspected to assess overall living conditions. Necessary directions were issued to the authorities concerned for addressing issues observed during the inspection and ensuring the welfare and dignity of prisoners.
