POONCH: The two-day seminar on “Recent Trends and Advances in Pre-Cocoon and Post-Cocoon Technology in Sericulture” successfully concluded at Poonch Campus, University of Jammu, today. The seminar focused on the latest advancements in sericulture highlighting innovative techniques and research developments in silk production. Prof. Rakesh Vaid Director, Poonch Campus graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Dr. N. S. Gehlot, Scientist-D, Central Silk Technological Research Institute (CSTRI), Miran Sahib, Jammu, was the guest of honor.

In his virtual address, Prof. Rakesh Vaid expressed his gratitude to Dr. N. S. Gehlot for sharing his expertise and insights on modern sericulture technologies. He emphasized the significance of such academic engagements in fostering research collaborations and skill development among students and faculty. He further stated that Poonch Campus is committed to promoting sericulture as a sustainable livelihood avenue and will continue organizing similar knowledge-sharing platforms in the future.

Dr. N. S. Gehlot, in his address, extended his appreciation to Poonch Campus, especially Prof. Rakesh Vaid, for organizing this seminar on such a relevant and evolving subject. He highlighted the emerging trends in pre-cocoon and post-cocoon technologies, underscoring the role of biotechnology, mechanization and digital innovations in enhancing silk productivity.

He also encouraged students to actively engage in research and skill-building activities to contribute to the growth of the sericulture industry. Adding to the discourse Dr. Arti Sharma, Assistant Professor, SKC-GDC Poonch, delivered an insightful address, emphasizing the need for scientific interventions in sericulture to improve silk quality and yield. She discussed the importance of sustainable sericulture practices and the role of academic institutions in bridging the gap between research and field applications. Dr. Rubia Bukhari, Incharge, PG Department of Sericulture, Poonch Campus presented a detailed report on the two-days seminar, summarizing the key deliberations, expert talks and interactive sessions.

She highlighted how the event provided a platform for knowledge exchange between experts, faculty and students, thereby fostering a deeper understanding of modern sericulture advancements. On this occasion, Dr. Rubia Bukhari and Dr. Palvi Sharma presented mementos to Dr. N. S. Gehlot and Dr. Arti Sharma on behalf of Director Poonch Campus, as a token of appreciation for their valuable contributions.

The seminar witnessed the active participation of students from the Department of Sericulture, along with the teaching and non-teaching staff of the campus. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks presented by Dr. Palvi Sharma, Lecturer, PG Department of Sericulture, Poonch Campus, who acknowledged the efforts of all stakeholders in making the seminar a success.
