SRINAGAR: Sports persons including boys and girls in Baramulla District are participating in the first ever Multi discipline Games in the month long Baramulla Games Christened “VarmulGindo”.

The District Sports Association (DSA) Baramulla is pleased to announce “VarmulGindo” Sports Fest, a month long Sports Event being organized in June - July 2025. The events features 18 different games, including Football, Hockey, Volleyball, Handball, Jr Cricket, Basketball, Kabaddi, Rugby, KhoKho, Table Tennis, Badminton, Chess, Carrom, Karate, Wushu, Athletics, Bodybuilding and Power Lifting across the district.

“VarmulGindo” is a significant initiative by the J&K Sports Council and District Sports Association Baramulla in collaboration with the Chinar Crops of Indian Army to promote sportsmanship, healthy competition and community engagement across Baramulla. The events aims to bring together young athletes from across the district, providing them with an opportunity to showcase their talents and inspire a culture of physical fitness and teamwork.

Mr. Omar Kakroo, President of the District Sports Association Baramulla, expressed his excitement about the event, stating, “VarmulGindo” represents a major effort by the District Sports Association to foster unity and sporting excellence in our community. We believe this festival will provide a great platform for our youth to demonstrate their skills and develop a passion for sports. Junaid Mir, a student of GDC said that he has never seen such a mega event being conducted in the district, he was very grateful to the Indian Army.

The event commenced on 17 June 25 at Showket Ali Stadium, wherein various dignitaries, local leaders and sports enthusiasts gathered. The games will culminate in a grand closing ceremony, where winners will be recognized, awarded and celebrated for their achievements.

The Indian Army’s support in organizing this event under Operation Sadhbhavna project has been instrumental in ensuring its success. “VarmulGindo” is a testament to the strength of community collaboration and the power of sports to bring people together. Individual participants or teams interested in competing in “VarmulGindo” were encouraged to register through the District Associations of various sports. Over 78 teams & 1600 persons for individual sports events registered.
