JAMMU: Former Deputy Mayor Jammu & BJP senior leader Baldev Singh Billawaria addressed a programme on ‘One Nation, One Election’ at Ward 56, Gangyal of Jammu city. All organisations of different societies, Market associations, Mohalla's welfare committee, their Presidents and members, unanimously supported and passed the resolution of ‘One Nation, One Election’.
Speaking on the occasion, Billawaria stated that the ‘One Nation, One Election’ will coordinate the election cycle for the Lok Sabha (Parliament) and State Legislative Assemblies in the nation. He stressed that instead of holding elections multiple times in a year, this model aims to conduct all elections simultaneously, either in one phase or in multiple phases within a short period. He said that One Nation One Election is an important step towards realizing the dream of a developed India.
This move will prove to be a milestone in realizing the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of a developed India 2047. Billawaria insisted that ‘One Nation, One Election’ is a transformative idea that could improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance political stability. He said that the frequent elections involve massive spending by the government and political parties. He said that conducting elections together would significantly reduce the cost of security, logistics, and administrative efforts.
He further said that the frequent elections lead to the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), which restricts government decisions and policy implementations. A synchronized election cycle would prevent frequent policy standstills. He added that the simultaneous elections will improve voter participation, as people would need to vote only once in a given period rather than multiple times for different elections.
He also said that 'One Nation One Election' will steer the nation on a new development spree. Billawaria appealed to all prominent Non-Organisational (NGO's), Market associations and organisations of different societies to fully support the resolution of 'One Nation One Election' and take the message to the society. He asked that this campaign will improve voter compliance and better decision making.
