In loving memory of Dr. Priya Ranjan: A mentor who treated me like family

BUDGAM: Police in Budgam, in coordination with the Mining Department, intensified its action against illegal mining and unauthorized transportation of minerals across the district during November 2025.

Police teams from various Police Stations and Police Posts, under the supervision of senior officers, carried out sustained operations in areas including Khansahib, Suranhall Batpora, Beerwah, Narbal, Magam, Hardupanzo, Budgam, Charar-i-Shareif, Waterhail, and Chadoora.

During these operations, 12 individuals involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals were arrested on the spot, and 06 FIRs were registered. A total of 39 vehicles used in illegal activities—comprising 11 tippers/dumpers, 21 tractors, 6 JCBs, and 1 L&T machine—were seized. Authorities also imposed heavy fines on violators.

Police reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding natural resources, enforcing mining and environmental laws, and maintaining strict vigil at all vulnerable locations. Citizens have been urged to report any illegal mining activities to help protect the district’s fragile riverine ecosystem.
