JAMMU: Conservator of Forests/Regional Wildlife Warden Jammu Sandeep Kumar today visited Nandini Wildlife Sanctuary to explore the revival of the heritage trekking route from Nandini to Bail Khad, with the objective of promoting responsible eco-tourism, nature-based recreation and community participation in wildlife conservation.

During the field visit, he inspected the route and identified suitable locations for resting sites, camping sites, viewpoints and nature trails, keeping in view the scenic, ecological and wildlife values of the Sanctuary.

He also interacted with the field staff deployed at Nandini Wildlife Sanctuary and reviewed protection and management activities. He directed the staff to strengthen field vigilance and maintain close coordination with local communities.

Emphasizing community participation and livelihood generation, Sandeep Kumar directed that local people, particularly youth, be involved in permissible eco-tourism and conservation-linked activities. He stressed that such opportunities can support local livelihoods, engage youth in productive activities and help steer them away from drug abuse and other harmful influences.

He further directed that the proposed trekking route and associated facilities be developed with minimum intervention in the natural landscape and in accordance with applicable wildlife and environmental regulations.
