In loving memory of Dr. Priya Ranjan: A mentor who treated me like family

JAMMU: The University of Jammu inaugurated a one-week workshop titled “SPSS UNPLUGGED: AI Perspective in Data Analytics”, organized by the College Development Council in collaboration with the Department of Statistics under RUSA 2.0.

Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Dean of Research Studies, University of Jammu, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In her keynote address, she highlighted the transformative role of data analytics and artificial intelligence in reshaping the contours of higher education. She noted that these emerging tools are not merely technical aids but powerful enablers of evidence-based decision making, innovative pedagogy, and interdisciplinary research, all of which resonate strongly with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Prof. Rohmetra further underscored that in this evolving academic landscape, the qualities of a good teacher extend beyond subject expertise. She emphasized the importance of adaptability, continuous learning, and the ability to integrate technology into teaching practices. A good teacher, she remarked, must cultivate critical thinking, foster creativity, and nurture ethical values among students, while remaining sensitive to inclusivity and diverse learner needs. By combining traditional wisdom with modern analytical approaches, educators can prepare students to thrive in a knowledge-driven society.

Dr. Dharminder Magotra, Director, College Development Council, University of Jammu, served as the Guest of Honour. He welcomed the Chief Guest and acknowledged the support received from the Director of Higher Education, UT of J&K, and Prof. Ravender Kumar Tickoo, Nodal Principal, Jammu Division Colleges. He shared that expert sessions will be conducted by renowned faculty from IIM Jammu, the University of Delhi, IASRI Delhi, and Panjab University, Chandigarh, ensuring a rich and diverse learning experience.

The workshop is being convened by Prof. Pawan Kumar, with Dr. Shivgotra serving as the Course Coordinator. He outlined the objectives and structure of the programme, which is designed to strengthen analytical skills and introduce AI-based approaches to data analysis using SPSS.

The organisers expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Honourable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Umesh Rai, whose visionary leadership and guidance made the programme possible. The FDP has drawn more than 70 participants from colleges across the Jammu division, reflecting its relevance and impact.
