JAMMU: Department of Punjabi Government SPMR College, in collaboration with NSS units and Cultural and Literary Committee organized a Poetry recitation competition on the theme “Chaar Sahibzaade” to observe Baal Veer Diwas. The poems were based on the sacrifices of the sons of the 10th Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji—Sahibzada Ajit Singh, Sahibzada Jujhar Singh, Sahibzada Zorawar Singh, and Sahibzada Fateh Singh.
A total of ten students participated in the poetry competition. The first prize was bagged by Taranpreet Kour of 3rd Sem, while the second and third prizes were won by Gurleen Kour and Gurtaz Kour of Ist Sem respectively. Prof. Ashwini Sharma, HOD Hindi and Dr. Chetna Gupta, Associate Professor, Department of English acted as Judges during the competition.Principal of the College Dr. Rajinder Singh congratulated the winners and appreciated the organizers. Prof. Pawan Gupta addressed the audience and spoke at length about the sacrifices of the young Sahibzaadas and urged everyone to imbibe their values and virtues to lead an exemplary life.
Dr. Mamta Rani, HOD Punjabi enlightened the audience about the historical and cultural importance of observing Baal Veer Diwas. The whole programme was coordinated and conducted by Dr. Deepshikha Sharma, Dr. Deepak Pathania and Dr. Mamta Rani. Faculty members who attended the programme were Dr. Sunal, Prof. Esha Abrol, Prof. Sabia, Dr. Gurcharan Singh, Dr. Jasvinder Singh and Dr. Suresh Sharma.
