SRINAGAR: A day-long function to celebrate ‘International Volunteer Day’ (IVD) was on Thursday organised by Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) J&K Kashmir chapter at Govt. S.P. College, M.A.Road Srinagar. Students, faculty members of Govt. S.P. College, M.A. Road Srinagar and the Red Cross staff and volunteers participated in the function. Principal SP College Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Mir welcomed the guests and the participants to the daylong event.
G.A Qureshi, Honorary Treasurer IRCS J&K was the chief guest on the occasion. In his key address, Qureshi spoke about the importance of volunteerism for peace and development. He said while the World grapples with humanitarian and development challenges-amid wars and climate change, we need volunteers to work together for the common good and contribute in achieving the sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Qureshi also highlighted the role of Red Cross Volunteers in nation building and in rendering selfless services to the people during calamities and emergencies. Few students and the faculty members of SP College also spoke on the occasion. Around 100 students and volunteers participated in the programme. Participation Certificates were distributed on the occasion. On the occasion, awareness about First Aid was also given to the students.
