REASI: In compliance with the directions of the Supreme Court, a meeting was convened today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Nidhi Malik to comprehensively review and strengthen measures for curbing stray dog menace in the District. The Deputy Commissioner took a detailed assessment of the current situation and discussed coordinated strategies to enhance public safety.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed authorities to identify institutionsâincluding schools, hospitals, stadiums and other public facilitiesâwhere the stray dog menace is more prevalent and to submit a detailed report at the earliest. She emphasized the need for adequate fencing, proper boundary walls, secured gates and other structural as well as administrative measures to prevent stray dogs from entering such premises.
She further directed that every educational institution, hospital, sports complex, bus stand/ISBT, and railway station shall designate a Nodal Officer responsible for reporting stray dog menace, maintaining cleanliness and ensuring that stray dogs do not inhabit the premises. All Executive Officers of Municipal Committees and Block Development Officers were mandated to conduct quarterly inspections to ensure that no stray dog habitats exist within or near institutional areas.
The Deputy Commissioner also instructed the Chief Medical Officer to prepare an inventory of Anti-Rabies Vaccines and ensure their adequate availability in all government hospitals. The Education Department was asked to conduct awareness sessions in all schools and colleges to educate students and staff about preventive measures related to stray dogs.
Additionally, the District Youth Services & Sports Officer was directed to take measures to construct boundary walls and gates at all stadiums and sports complexes, along with adequate deployment of security and ground staff. The ARTO and Municipal Council were instructed to ensure proper waste management at transport facilities to prevent stray dog gatherings.
Reiterating the administrationâs commitment, the Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration will take all necessary measures to curb stray dog-related incidents and ensure public safety in Reasi. The meeting was attended by ADC Rakesh Kumar, PO POSHAN Sudershan Kumar, ACD Vijay Kumar and other senior officers.
