RAJOURI: Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma today conducted a whirlwind tour of Tehsil Darhal, where he assessed the progress of developmental works, inspected public institutions and interacted with local youth. The DC took a comprehensive review of the road connectivity from Rajouri to Darhal and directed the concerned departments to immediately take up repair works, including filling of potholes, to ensure safe and smooth travel for commuters.

As part of the outreach, the Deputy Commissioner held an interactive meeting with members of Youth Clubs of the area. He motivated them to initiate an awareness campaign under the Nasha Mukht Abhiyan to combat the menace of drug abuse in the region. The issue of rising drug abuse in the area was a key focus during the visit. The DC took a detailed review of the action taken by concerned departments in the aftermath of the death of a youth due to drug overdose.

Expressing serious concern over the incident, he stressed the need for coordinated and sustained efforts to tackle the problem while emphasizing community-based interventions. He directed for the active involvement of local youth in the campaign to make Darhal a Drug-Free Zone. Taking note of public footfall at natural tourist spots, the DC also instructed the police authorities to ensure security arrangements at the Darhal waterfall, a popular destination in the area.
