JAMMU: Senior BJP leader, Former State Secretary BJP J&K and Prabhari District Doda, Pawan Sharma, has strongly criticized the recently advertised requirement of Urdu as a mandatory paper for the Naib Tehsildar post by the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Recruitment Board (JKSSRB).
Sharma termed this move as a blatant violation of the principle of equal treatment to all official languages recognized under the Jammu and Kashmir Official Languages Act. He emphasized that while Urdu is one of the official languages, it is neither compulsory for all residents of the UT nor the sole official language.
“There are several other officially recognized languages in Jammu and Kashmir, including Hindi, Dogri, Kashmiri, and English. Imposing Urdu as a compulsory qualifying paper discriminates against a large section of aspirants who do not have a background in the language,” said Sharma.
He further urged the administration and JKSSRB to review and revise the criteria to ensure fair and equitable opportunity for all candidates, irrespective of their linguistic background. “This decision is unfair to thousands of deserving youth who are proficient in other official languages but now find themselves excluded due to this arbitrary mandate,” he added.
Pawan Sharma urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and LG Manoj Sinha to personally intervene in the matter, ensuring that justice is served. Sharma reiterated that BJP is committed to ensuring justice, inclusivity, and equal opportunity for every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir, and such decisions must be in alignment with the constitutional and linguistic rights of all communities.
