KUPWARA: As part of its ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking and its associated societal threats, Police in Kupwara has executed a detention order under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS) against a habitual drug trafficker Saqib Nazir Bhat son of Nazir Ahmad Bhat resident of Lolab Kupwara.

The detention order was issued by the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir vide Order No. Div Com-K/100/2025 dated 02/06/2025. The accused was taken into custody and subsequently lodged at District Jail Poonch for preventive detention under the said Act.

Saqib Nazir Bhat has a known history of involvement in drug-related activities and is a key accused in FIR No. 22/2022 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act, registered at Police Station Lalpora. He has been actively involved in promoting the drug menace by luring local youth into substance abuse posing a serious threat to the social fabric and public order in the area. Given the gravity of his actions and his continued involvement in narcotics trafficking despite prior legal action a preventive detention order under the PIT NDPS Act was invoked to disrupt his activities and protect the community from further harm.

Police remains committed to its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and continues to take stringent measures to safeguard the youth and maintain drug a free environment in the region.
