UDHAMPUR: The Central Integrated Pest Management Centre, Jammu today commenced a two-day Human Resource Development Programme on Integrated Pest Management at Village Bikhan Gala, Panchayat Mand East, Block Tikri, District Udhampur.
The programme aims to sensitize farmers about eco-friendly pest management practices, promote the safe and judicious use of pesticides, and encourage sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
The inaugural session witnessed enthusiastic participation from Vikash Padha, Chief Agriculture Officer, Udhampur, Sunil Gupta, District Agriculture Officer, Udhampur, Arti Sharma and a large number of local farmers.
Dr. M.K. Arya, Deputy Director (PP) delivered a detailed presentation on the importance of Integrated Pest Management in minimizing crop losses, reducing dependence on chemical pesticides, and ensuring food and environmental safety. He also highlighted the role of bio-control agents in effective field-level pest management, emphasizing their significance in reducing pesticide residues and maintaining ecological balance.
He stressed the safe and judicious use of pesticides and called upon farmers to adopt IPM as a holistic approach for improving crop health and enhancing productivity. Ravi Kumar Chhapare, APPO (E) apprised the participants of the necessary precautions to be observed while using pesticides in the field. He emphasized the importance of following recommended dosages, proper application methods and safety measures to minimize risks to farmers, crops and the environment.
Vikash Padha, CAO Udhampur highlighted the importance and need for adopting Integrated Pest Management in the district. He motivated farmers to adopt eco-friendly pest management practices and reduce their dependence on chemical plant protection measures.
Sunil Gupta, DAO Udhampur briefed the farmers about various practices for improving soil fertility and minimizing pest attacks. He also encouraged them to adopt IPM practices and reduce the excessive use of chemical plant protection products.
The participating farmers actively engaged in interactive sessions, raised queries related to pest and crop management and benefited from the technical guidance provided by the experts.
They appreciated the collaborative efforts of CIPMC Jammu for organizing the programme at the grassroots level and providing practical knowledge on sustainable and environmentally friendly pest management practices.
