KATHUA: To strengthen grassroots democracy and improve public outreach, the District Administration Kathua organised Gram Sabhas at six Panchayats under Reform Utsav 2026. The Gram Sabhas covered Panchayat Bandhar in Block Bani, Panchayat Amala in Block Barnoti, Panchayat Bhed Balode in Block Kathua, Panchayat Dhana in Block Keerian Gandyal, Panchayat Bunn in Block Marheen and Panchayat Amuala in Block Nagrota Gujroo.

The meetings enabled direct interaction between government functionaries and residents. Officials from various departments highlighted ongoing administrative reforms aimed at improving transparency, strengthening governance and making public services more accessible.

Participants were sensitised about government welfare schemes, benefits available to eligible individuals and application procedures, with emphasis on identifying deserving beneficiaries so that no eligible household is deprived of assistance.

Residents also raised concerns and offered suggestions on village-level development, including basic amenities, infrastructure requirements and ongoing works, bringing local priorities and developmental gaps to the attention of the authorities concerned.

The initiative reinforced the role of Panchayati Raj Institutions and community participation in identifying development priorities and promoting accountability. The District Administration is implementing a phased outreach programme to cover all Panchayats, aiming to bridge the gap between public institutions and citizens, improve awareness of government initiatives and encourage participation in local governance.
