• Directs strict enforcement of Traffic Rules and Safety Upgradation at Accident Prone Spots

GANDERBAL: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shreya Singhal, today chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee to review the action taken on the decisions of the previous meeting and assess measures aimed at strengthening road safety, regulating traffic and preventing road accidents across the district.

During the meeting, the DC reviewed the status of compliance with earlier directions and stressed the need for coordinated efforts among all concerned departments to ensure safer roads and effective traffic management.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the Traffic Police to strictly enforce traffic rules and take stringent action against violators. The Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Ganderbal, was asked to work in close coordination with the Traffic Police to strengthen enforcement measures and ensure adherence to road safety regulations.

Emphasising the need for preventive interventions, the DC directed the concerned departments to conduct field visits to identified accident prone locations and vulnerable road stretches and undertake immediate corrective measures. She stressed the urgent upgradation of U turns and other vulnerable stretches through the installation of crash barriers, road safety mirrors, signboards and other essential safety infrastructure to minimise the risk of accidents.

The meeting also reviewed traffic congestion and parking related issues in urban areas. The DC directed the concerned authorities to identify suitable parking sites within towns and ensure the removal of encroachments obstructing the smooth movement of traffic and pedestrians. She further directed the installation of traffic signals at appropriate locations within towns and at four way road junctions to facilitate orderly traffic movement and reduce the risk of road accidents.

Stressing the importance of a prompt emergency response mechanism on major roads, the Deputy Commissioner directed BEACON and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to ensure the availability of ambulances along their respective road stretches for timely assistance to accident victims. The concerned agencies were also asked to install prominent signboards displaying dedicated toll free emergency contact numbers to facilitate immediate response during road accidents.

The DC underscored that road safety requires sustained interdepartmental coordination, strict enforcement of traffic regulations and timely implementation of preventive measures. She directed all concerned departments to ensure prompt follow up on the decisions taken during the meeting and maintain close coordination for effective implementation of the road safety action plan.

The meeting was attended by officers from the Traffic Police, Transport Department, Health Department, Public Works Department (R&B), PMGSY, Jal Shakti, Irrigation and Flood Control, BEACON, NHAI and other concerned departments.
