JAMMU: BJP Jammu & Kashmir State Secretary Pawan Sharma has strongly condemned the disrespect shown towards the legacy of Maharaja Hari Singh and the sentiments of the Dogra community during the National Conference's programme held at Maharaja Hari Singh Park in the name of demanding the restoration of statehood.

Pawan Sharma stated that Maharaja Hari Singh was not merely a ruler but the architect of modern Jammu & Kashmir, a visionary reformer, and the leader whose historic decision ensured the accession of Jammu & Kashmir to India. Any disregard for his legacy is not only an insult to a great statesman but also an affront to the glorious history, heritage, and self-respect of the people of Jammu and the entire Dogra community.

He said it is deeply ironic that the National Conference chose Maharaja Hari Singh Park as the venue for its political programme while failing to accord due respect to the very leader in whose memory the park stands. This reflects the party's continued disregard for Dogra history and heritage. Even after decades, the National Conference appears unable to overcome its prejudiced approach towards the identity and aspirations of the people of Jammu.

Pawan Sharma asserted that the Dogra community has always stood firmly for nationalism, sacrifice, and the unity of India. The historic accession of Jammu & Kashmir to the Union of India remains one of the most significant milestones in the region's history, made possible through the decisive leadership of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji. Any attempt to diminish or ignore his contribution is unacceptable.

He questioned Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's silence on the issue and asked whether the National Conference genuinely acknowledges the historic role played by Maharaja Hari Singh Ji. If it does, then why was his legacy ignored during a political gathering held at a location dedicated to his memory? The people of Jammu deserve a clear answer.

Pawan Sharma demanded that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the National Conference leadership issue an unconditional public apology for hurting the sentiments of the Dogra community. He stated that this matter cannot be brushed aside through political rhetoric or silence, as it concerns the dignity and historical identity of an entire community.

He further said that the history of Jammu & Kashmir belongs to all its regions and communities and cannot be selectively interpreted to suit political agendas. Respect for Maharaja Hari Singh is not merely a matter of protocol but a recognition of his immense contribution to the state's history and India's national unity.

Pawan Sharma reaffirmed that the Bharatiya Janata Party and all nationalist citizens of Jammu & Kashmir stand firmly in defence of the legacy of Maharaja Hari Singh, the pride of the Dogra community, and the cultural and historical identity of Jammu. Any attempt to undermine this legacy will be strongly opposed through democratic and constitutional means.
