KISHTWAR: In a significant development in the tragic Chhatroo incident involving the death of a minor student, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha telephonically spoke with senior Congress leader G.M. Saroori and assured him that the case would be transferred to the Crime Branch for a fair, transparent and thorough investigation.
As per a press release issued by office of GM Saroori, during the telephonic conversation, Saroori apprised the Lieutenant Governor of the concerns of the victim’s family and the demands being raised by local residents for a comprehensive and impartial probe. He stressed that every aspect of the case should be investigated thoroughly and that the role of every person connected with the incident must be established on the basis of evidence.
The Lieutenant Governor assured Saroori that the administration was taking the matter seriously and that the case would be handed over to the Crime Branch to ensure an impartial investigation. He further assured that all facts would be brought to light and that justice would be delivered to the victim and her family.
The development comes amid continued grief, public concern and demands in Chhatroo for a transparent, scientific and time-bound investigation into the circumstances surrounding the minor girl’s death.
Earlier, G.M. Saroori had led a Congress delegation to the victim’s family, where he expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and demanded strict action against all those found responsible. He had maintained that the investigation should not be restricted to the principal accused alone, but should also establish the role of anyone found to have aided, assisted, concealed evidence or otherwise facilitated the crime.
Saroori had also urged the authorities to investigate the reported non-availability of CCTV footage and determine whether there had been any negligence or deliberate lapse in preserving or making available relevant evidence.
The Congress delegation that visited the family included DCC Kishtwar president P.L. Shan, Irshad Ahmed Sheikh, besides representatives and workers of the District and Block Congress Committees.
Meanwhile, five arrests have so far been reported in connection with the case, while the Special Investigation Team (SIT) had been directed to conduct a comprehensive, scientific, impartial and time-bound investigation.
The assurance by the Lieutenant Governor to transfer the case to the Crime Branch marks a significant development in the matter and is expected to address the demand for an independent and transparent investigation.
Saroori welcomed the assurance and expressed hope that the Crime Branch investigation would establish the complete facts, identify all those responsible and ensure that the victim’s family receives justice without delay.
