JAMMU: The National Conference on Advances in Applied Physical Sciences (NCAAPS-2025) began today at the University of Jammu, setting the stage for a three-day gathering of leading scientists, researchers, academicians, and young scholars. Organized by the Department of Physics from 4 to 6 December 2025, the conference is designed to facilitate meaningful dialogue on recent developments, innovations, and collaborative possibilities in applied physical sciences.
Drawing wide national participation, the conference has attracted around 180 delegates from universities and research institutions across the country. The scientific session includes over 80 poster presentations, 25 oral presentations, 18 invited talks, and two plenary lectures.
Prof. Mahavir Singh, Vice Chancellor, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, graced the event as a Chief Guest. Underlining the growing need for interdisciplinary approaches in tackling current and future scientific challenges, he spoke about the expanding frontiers of applied physical sciences and the responsibility of researchers to align their work with emerging national and global needs.
Prof. Singh highlighted how collaborative research, technological experimentation, and curiosity-driven inquiry can shape impactful scientific solutions. He lauded the University of Jammu for fostering a vibrant academic environment and encouraged young scholars to remain innovative, persistent, and ethically grounded in their scientific pursuits.
The inaugural programme began with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by the release of the abstract book and a felicitation ceremony. Padma Shri Prof. Lalit K. Mangotra, Former Professor, Department of Physics, University of Jammu, attended the event as the Guest of Honour, offering thoughtful reflections on strengthening research culture and expanding opportunities for scientific inquiry. Prof. J. P. Singh Joorel, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu, presided over the session and congratulated the Department of Physics for hosting a conference of such scale and academic depth.
Earlier, Prof. K. K. Bamzai, Conference Convener and Head, Department of Physics, welcomed the delegates and shared an overview of the conference themes and objectives. He noted that the event aims to deepen scientific engagement and bring together researchers working across diverse strands of applied physics. The addresses by the dignitaries collectively reinforced the growing relevance of applied physical sciences in advancing emerging technologies and meeting contemporary societal needs.
The inaugural session concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Sandeep Arya, Organizing Secretary of the conference. The academic proceedings then continued with Technical Session I, featuring a plenary lecture by Prof. Mahavir Singh on magnetic technology, offering rich insights into recent technological breakthroughs. The conference will continue over the next two days with multiple technical sessions, discussions, and presentations, promising an engaging platform for knowledge sharing and academic collaboration in applied physical sciences.
