JAMMU: BJP senior leader, renowned literary person, historian and State Awardee, Prof. (Dr.) Kulbhushan Mohtra, participated in the national seminar on Kashmir: Past, Present, and Future, organized by the Varanasi Institute of History at the Vedic Vigyan Kendra, Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi. The seminar, attended by esteemed academicians, researchers, and students, provided a platform for insightful discussions on the historical trajectory and contemporary developments in Jammu and Kashmir.

Dressed in a traditional Dogra suit, Mohtra captivated the audience with his detailed presentation on "Jammu & Kashmir After 1947." His discourse traced the region’s journey from the tumultuous events of Mirpur (1947) to the pivotal year of 1953, shedding light on political transformations and socio-economic changes. He further addressed the rise of terrorism in the Valley, the forced migration of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990, and the historic abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, which marked a significant turning point in J&K’s governance.

In his address, Mohtra emphasized, "Understanding the past is crucial to shaping the future of Jammu and Kashmir. The abrogation of Article 370 has redefined the region’s political landscape, but the road ahead requires continued dialogue, security measures, and economic initiatives to ensure stability and growth." His well-researched narrative provided the audience with a comprehensive view of the historical struggles and contemporary challenges of the region.

The seminar witnessed active participation from scholars and experts who engaged in thought-provoking discussions on the cultural heritage, political evolution, and socio-economic impact of recent developments in Kashmir. Mohtra’s contribution to the discourse was widely appreciated, and he was presented with a Certificate of Participation in recognition of his valuable insights.

Prof. Mohtra suggested that the topic of the seminar should have been Jammu and Kashmir; Past, Present and Future and not only Kashmir:  Past, Present and Future. The event reaffirmed the Varanasi Institute of History’s commitment to fostering academic discussions on significant historical and geopolitical issues. It concluded with a consensus on the need for sustained academic research, policy discussions, and inclusive strategies to ensure peace and progress in Jammu and Kashmir.
