JAMMU: The Extension & Publicity Wing, Directorate of Animal Husbandry Jammu organized a series of farmers’ awareness camps in the last two days. The camps, held at Balore, Samba and Dharmari, Reasi on September 8th and 9th respectively, formed part of the department's ongoing efforts to acquaint the farming community about the livestock development programmes and departmental initiatives.
The farmers were apprised of the government schemes and programmes including flagship Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), Integrated Dairy Development Scheme (IDDS), Integrated Poultry Development Programme (IPDP), Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM), National Livestock Mission (NLM) and Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme. The farmers were informed about the financial incentives available under these initiatives in the dairy, poultry and feed & fodder sectors- all aimed at enhancing livestock productivity, generating rural employment and improving farmers’ livelihoods.
The participants were also sensitized to the prevention and control of livestock diseases, with special emphasis on Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD). The importance of early detection and reporting of suspected cases, proper hygiene and biosecurity, vector control and other preventive measures were highlighted. Information on scientific livestock management and improved animal husbandry practices was also shared with the farmers.
Extension Officer, Extension & Publicity Wing Dr. Suresh Kumar VAS, Extension & Publicity Wing Dr. Sandeep Kumar were the resource persons. The camps provided an interactive platform for farmers to directly interact with departmental functionaries, seek clarification regarding various schemes and receive practical information on livestock health and management.
