JAMMU: The Department of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu, celebrated Teachers’ Day and Sri Krishna Janmashtami with enthusiasm and academic spirit. The unique combination of both occasions brought together faculty members, research scholars and students to honour the enduring relationship between teachers and learners and to reflect on the teachings of Sri Krishna as a teacher.
The function commenced with the auspicious Deep Prajwalan and Saraswati Vandana. The ceremony was followed by the recitation of Guru Slokas. The proceedings established a reflective and reverential tone for the celebration. The programme highlighted the Guru as a guiding force in the integral development of students.
The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Jammu, Prof. Sanjeev Jain, in absentia conveyed his blessings and good wishes to the students of the Department for organising the activity. Addressing the learners, Prof. J. N. Baliya, Dean, School of Education, observed that the celebration of Teachers’ Day alongside Janmashtami holds special significance, as Sri Krishna exemplifies the true teacher-educator who taught humanity how to act and what to become. He highlighted the birth anniversary of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan and noted that for this Department, which is dedicated to preparing teachers, this makes the occasion especially meaningful. He said the Department reflects the positivity of becoming a teacher, as every day is Teachers’ Day here.
Prof. Asit K. Mantry spoke on the significance of the Guru-Shishya Parampara. He reflected on the deeper meaning of Teachers’ Day and stated that its spirit belongs to students as much as to teachers. He also emphasised that all of us have been teachers, some are teachers today and some are future teachers. He appreciated the coordinated planning and collective effort of scholars and students behind the celebration. He emphasised the Sankalp of Bharat, where teaching is a commitment to give one’s knowledge and abilities to humanity. He described the teacher as a bridge to students’ success and a Sadhak whose entire life is a journey of Sadhana.
The students, scholars and even teachers participated in various activities. The activities included Sanskrit Shlokas from various scriptures, recitations and speeches in different languages, classical and semi-classical dance performances, singing, poetry, research charades, fun activities for teachers, a drama presentation on the teachings of Shri Krishna regarding education and a group song by Semester I students of ITEP. Dr. Aman, Convener, Cultural Committee, CUJ, delivered the Vote of Thanks.
He expressed his gratitude to the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, the Dean, the Head of the Department, all faculties, research scholars, students, and everyone who contributed to the successful conduct of the celebration. The programme concluded with the National Anthem and a group photograph.The programme was witnessed by faculty members of the Department, including Dr. Kiran, Dr. Aman, Dr. Yad Ram, Dr. Mohan Galgotra, Dr. Ravail Singh, Dr. Nidhi Sarraf, Dr. Shikha, Ms. Sumedha Rathore and Mr. Surjit.
The celebration of Teachers’ Day and Janmashtami created a warm and lively atmosphere in the Department. It gave students an opportunity to express their gratitude, showcase their talents and reflect on the ideals of teaching and learning. The celebration reflected the academic culture of the Department and highlighted the value of learning through meaningful experiences beyond the classroom.
