JAMMU: Stating that Jammu & Kashmir is passing through a critical phase marked by multiple socio-economic and political challenges, senior Congress leader, AICC Member and Bharat Yatri, Shamsher Chand, today called on J&K Congress Incharge Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain in Jammu and held a detailed and wide-ranging discussion on the current situation in the Union Territory.
During the meeting, Shamsher Chand presented a comprehensive overview of what he termed as the âmounting and unresolved issuesâ affecting various sections of society in J&K. He expressed serious concern over the alarming rise in unemployment among educated youth, delays in recruitment processes, and uncertainty surrounding job security for daily wagers, casual labourers, and contractual employees. He noted that many families are facing financial strain due to shrinking employment opportunities and escalating prices of essential commodities.
The discussion also focused on the economic slowdown impacting key sectors such as agriculture, horticulture, small-scale trade, transport, and tourism. Shamsher Chand highlighted that farmers and fruit growers are grappling with issues related to market access, pricing, and input costs, while small traders and entrepreneurs are struggling to sustain their businesses in a challenging economic environment. He emphasized the urgent need for policy interventions aimed at revitalizing these sectors and generating sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Raising concerns about developmental disparities, he pointed out that several districts continue to face gaps in basic infrastructure, including road connectivity, healthcare facilities, drinking water supply, and educational institutions. He underlined the importance of ensuring balanced and inclusive development across regions, so that no area feels neglected or marginalized.
Shamsher Chand also stressed the significance of restoring and strengthening democratic institutions, enhancing transparency in governance, and ensuring greater public participation in decision-making processes. He observed that people are seeking responsive administration and accountability at all levels.
On the organizational front, he apprised Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain about the sentiments of party workers and grassroots leaders. He emphasized the need to reinvigorate the party structure at booth and block levels, expand outreach initiatives, and engage more actively with youth, women, farmers, labourers, traders, and marginalized communities. He called for regular interaction with workers to boost morale and ensure cohesive functioning of the organization across the Union Territory.

He reiterated the Congress partyâs unwavering commitment to protecting the constitutional rights, dignity, and socio-economic interests of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
