BARAMULLA: Police in Baramulla have cracked a house theft case within a short span of time with the arrest of three accused persons and recovery of stolen gold jewellery. The case pertains to a complaint received at Police Station Baramulla from Saleema Begum W/o Mohd Akbar Wani resident of Rangwar, Baramulla, who reported that gold jewellery and cash were stolen from an almirah at her residence while she was away on official duties in connection with Independence Day arrangements. On receipt of the complaint, a case FIR No. 139/2026 U/S 331(4), 305 BNS was registered at Police Station Baramulla and investigation was taken up.
During investigation, the suspected worker Shabir Ahmad Khan son of Mohd Yousuf Khan resident of Kanispora was taken into custody. During questioning, he disclosed his involvement in the theft and revealed that the stolen jewellery had been handed over to Ulfat Rather D/o Mohd Yousuf Rather resident of Pathla, Kanispora. Subsequently, Ulfat was subsequently questioned, during which she disclosed that part of the stolen jewellery had been retained at her residence, while the stolen pair of gold bangles had been sold to Gousia Ornaments, Jadeed Link Road, Baramulla, owned by Hilal Ahmad Zargar son of Nazir Ahmad Zargar resident of Mohalla Jadeed, Baramulla.
Acting promptly on the disclosures, Police recovered one gold ring and one gold earring from the residence of Ulfat Rather. A subsequent search of Gousia Ornaments led to the recovery of the stolen pair of gold bangles. Investigation further revealed that the gold bangles had been sold for ₹2.40 lakh, out of which ₹1.80 lakh was transferred online to Ulfat Rather, while ₹60,000 was paid in cash.
Police have so far recovered one pair of gold bangles, one gold ring and one gold earring of the stolen property. Efforts are underway to recover the remaining stolen property, including ₹15,000 cash and the other gold earring, besides establishing the complete sequence of events and role of all persons involved.
All three accused persons Shabir Ahmad Khan, Ulfat Rather and Hilal Ahmad Zargarhave been arrested. Further investigation is in progress. Police reiterate their commitment to swift, professional and result-oriented investigation, ensuring that offenders are brought to justice and stolen property is recovered.
