SAMBA: The District Administration of Samba, in collaboration with the Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare Department, has launched a significant initiative to address a longstanding issue for farmers in the region. For the first time since 1999, approximately 500 Kanal (62.5 acres) land beyond the fence are being cultivated during the Kharif 2024 season.

The initiative focuses on pulse cultivation in the border villages of Chalyari Khurd, Chalyari Kalan, Sayal, and Chachwal in the Rajpura Block of District Samba. As part of this project, the Department of Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare (FW) Samba has distributed 5 quintals of Walab-1 Mash Variety seeds to the farmers having land beyond the Border fence.

This collaborative effort among the District Administration and the Agriculture Production and FW Samba has brought new hope to the farmers in these border areas. The initiative aims to increase their income by bringing previously uncultivated land into productive use.

Chief Agriculture Officer Madan Gopal Singh, along with officers from the Army, Agriculture Extension Officers, and PRI members, were present to support the farmers during this pivotal moment.

The initiative is a testament to the commitment of the District Administration and the Agriculture Department for improving the livelihoods of farmers in the border areas, demonstrating a significant step towards agricultural development and self-sufficiency.
