HANDWARA: An unfortunate accident caused loss of four precious lives on July 08, 2024 in Rajpora Handwara while the family was on way to a nearby spring for collecting water. The area being water deficient, is presently served through tankers’ service as per the demand/ availability. The PHE, Jal Shakti Department, Kashmir envisages to cover the area through construction of Water Supply Scheme (WSS )Behnipora Satkoji under Jal Jeevan Mission.

The work on various components of the said water supply scheme is at an advanced stage and is nearing completion barring one component i.e. offtake structure and intake main. The work on pending component has not been taken up due to the matter being sub-judice and the department is pursuingit vigorously in the Hon’ble Court so that it can be completed expeditiously to give relief to the villagers by providing adequate and safe water on sustained basis.
