GANDERBAL: Health Centre, Directorate of Students Welfare (DSW) Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) in collaboration with District Non-Communicable Disease Division, CMO and BMO Ganderbal, Dental and Oral section, District Hospital Ganderbal and Kashmir Eye Hospital observed “World Health Day” under the theme "Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures" at varsity’s Tulmulla Campus.

Inaugurating the programme, Vice Chancellor, Prof. A Ravinder Nath, emphasized the importance of preventive care, early interventions, and community-based health education for ensuring a healthier tomorrow. He said such comprehensive health awareness and screening programmes sensitises the students, faculty and other functionaries of the university about the prevalence of non-communicable diseases and the role of physical activity, mental well-being, and balanced diets.

Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Shahid Rasool in his address, said, the theme "Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures" underscores the vital role of early health practices in shaping long-term outcomes. “From maternal and child health to youth mental well-being and the prevention of lifestyle diseases, the message is clear: investing in health from the start is the surest path to a hopeful and productive future,” Prof. Shahid said.

Dean School of Legal Studies, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir in his address spoke about the rising burden of non-communicable diseases and the urgent need to educate youth about healthy lifestyle choices. "The habits we form in our youth often determine the quality of our health in adulthood,"

Dean DSW, Prof. Irfan Aalam, Medical Officers, Dr. Sheeba and Dr. Abid Ahmad, BMO, Dr Zahoor, Nursing Officer, Mr. Javeed Ahmad, Pharmacist, Ms. Asmat Majeed, and other staff members of the Health Centre were present.

The highlights of the camp included: Free counselling and consultation, free medicines to the patients, free clinical investigations like Blood sugar, HbA1c, Sputum for AFB etc, free diet counselling and diet charts for the participants and free Dental & Oral hygiene Consultation & Counselling. As many as 350 people availed the services during the camp. The camp was coordinated by Medical Attendant, Mr Javid Ali Khan.
