JAMMU: To promote behavioural change in waste management, the Ecoclub of Government Degree College, Marh in collaboration with Regional Urban Development Agency (RUDA), Centre for Environment Education (CEE) New Delhi organized maiden two days workshop on Solid Waste Management under the supervision Principal Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Kumar Koul.
The Principal stressed the importance of the programme in Swachh Bharat Mission - Urban (SBM-U) 2.0. and making this project a historic landmark for the years to come. He emphasized that the aim of this event was to educate residents about waste segregation and proper disposal. This project focuses on reducing plastic waste generation and this collaboration will help in enhancing collection, segregation, recovery, recycling of non-biodegradable waste while promoting integrated plastic waste management practices.
CEO, Regional Urban Development Agency (RUDA) Sanjeev Arora focused his presentation on Rural and Urban Landscapes free of Plastic and Dry Waste. He made the local community aware that how the segregation of hazardous waste will help in generating revenue for adopted Panchayat Dhateryal by selectively selling dry waste and production of manure by composting wet waste (using earthen pots), thereby creating new sources of employment for the unemployed in the village.
Parshotam Lal (Ex- Sarpanch) assured and agreed to work in collaboration with the college and RUDA by making this project will be a successful endeavour and Dhateryal a Green Clean Panchayat. More than 200 local community members along with students of the college participated in this event.
The event was captured by the team of CEE, New Delhi using Drone Technology which was appreciated by all. Pertinently, college is already working with RUDA for the past 3 years and has received Carbon credits appreciation from RUDA by giving them 4140 kg of solid waste, which is an achievement and inspiration for all.
