BARAMULLA: In a proactive step towards youth engagement and community development, Police in Baramulla inaugurated a T20 Cricket Tournament at the Sanctorium Ground, Tangmarg, under Civic Action Programme. The initiative aims to foster sportsmanship, encourage healthy lifestyles and strengthen police-public relations. The tournament was formally inaugurated by SP Ops Baramulla Shri Feroz Yehya-JKPS, in the presence of SDPO Tangmarg, along with SHO Tangmarg, SHO Kunzer and IC PP Babareshi.
The event has drawn enthusiastic participation with 10 teams representing the 5 Police Sub-Divisions of Baramulla district competing in a knock-out format. This sporting event offers a platform for local youth to display their cricketing talent, remain physically active, and contribute positively to society, particularly in combating the growing menace of drug abuse.
During the inauguration, senior officers highlighted the importance of channelizing youth energies into constructive pursuits and emphasized the role of such events in promoting a vibrant sports culture and reinforcing community trust in police.
The opening match witnessed Narwaw 11 securing a commanding win over Kreeri A by 7 wickets. Zahoor Xolo of Narwaw 11 was declared Man of the Match for his unbeaten 108 runs off 54 balls, a performance that electrified the crowd. The local populace has lauded J&K Police for this initiative, commending their sustained efforts towards youth empowerment and meaningful community engagement.
