KATRA: On the occasion of International Cancer Day, the Centre for advanced research (CAR-SMVDU) and NSS Volunteers at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra, organized an enlightening awareness lecture and poster competition on cancer prevention and risk factors. The event was led by Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Associate Professor, School of Biotechnology, along with his dedicated research team.Dr. Kumar, along with research scholars Rajeshwer Jamwal, Minerva, Bhawani Sharma, and Agamya Gupta, delivered comprehensive lectures on various types of cancers, including lung cancer, ovarian cancer, breast cancer, and gastrointestinal (GI) cancers.
The sessions focused on understanding cancer progression, identifying key risk factors, and promoting preventive measures to reduce cancer incidence.Addressing the students, Dr. Kumar emphasized the importance of early detection and lifestyle modifications in mitigating cancer risks. He highlighted how environmental factors, genetic predisposition, and lifestyle choices contribute to cancer development.
The research scholars further elaborated on advancements in cancer research, recent treatment approaches, and the role of biotechnology in combating the disease.The event witnessed active participation from students, fostering meaningful discussions on cancer awareness and the significance of scientific research in early diagnosis and treatment. Additionally, the NSS SMVDU organized a documentary screening on cancer awareness, followed by a poster competition on the theme. The event provided a creative platform for students to showcase their understanding of cancer prevention and research through visually engaging posters.
A human chain was formed by student volunteers of NSS to showcase their support and commitment towards awareness and prevention of cancer.The initiative was widely appreciated for its contribution to spreading crucial knowledge on cancer prevention and encouraging young minds to engage in cancer research.
