UDHAMPUR: Chairman District Development Council Udhampur Lal Chand today conducted on-the-spot assessment of developmental requirements in Panchayat Gandala. On the demand of the local public, the DDC Chairman visited the local Government High School Gandala along with the prominent citizens to inspect the working of the school including the student strength, provision of accommodation and civic amenities, availability of the teachers and current position of works proposed for the school, besides in the Panchayat area.
The DDC Chairman asked for immediate initiation of the proposed construction of additional classrooms and a kitchen in the school for which grant of Rs 9.30 lakh has been allotted under the capex budget. The concerned department was asked to revise the Detailed Project Report to adequately address the demands and requirements of the school.
Expressing concern over lack of development in the Panchayat despite its proximity to the city, the chairman directed the Block Development Officer Udhampur telephonically to revise the DPR, meet the shortcomings and ensure proper utilisation of funds.
Earlier, the headmaster of the school apprised the chairman about the shortage of staff in the school with about 200 student strength. The DDC Chairman assured him that the demands would be considered seriously and necessary steps would be taken to impart quality education to the rural children.
