- Calls for double-lane highway to combat rising terror threats
JAMMU: Dr. Sunil Bhardwaj, MLA from Ramnagar Assembly constituency, today met with Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, to discuss the important concerns of the people of Ramnagar Assembly constituency. During the meeting, Dr. Bhardwaj brought attention to several key issues, with a particular focus on the rising security challenges in the Dudu-Basantgarh region of the constituency. He highlighted the recent surge in terror-related activities, which has created fear and instability among the local inhabitants. The inadequate road infrastructure in the area is hindering the ability of security forces to carry out effective counter-terror operations, further exacerbating the situation.
Dr. Bhardwaj stressed the urgent need for the construction of an all-weather, double-lane Highway from Roun Domail to Basantgarh. He stressed upon the issue that this infrastructure development is crucial not only for enhancing the security situation in the region but also for promoting overall development. The proposed highway would significantly improve mobility, allowing security forces to respond more effectively to threats, thereby contributing to long-term peace and stability in the region.
Beyond the immediate security benefits, Dr. Bhardwaj underscored the broader socioeconomic impacts that this road project would bring. He pointed out that roads are the backbone of development, and constructing a strong road network would have a transformative effect on the region. Improved connectivity would boost tourism, a sector with tremendous potential in the scenic Dudu-Basantgarh area. This, in turn, would generate livelihood opportunities for local communities, reduce poverty, and slow the migration of people in search of better opportunities.
In addition to security and road infrastructure, Dr. Bhardwaj raised several other important issues that need urgent attention. He advocated for the establishment of fully residential colleges in the region to improve access to higher education. The upgradation of schools and hospitals is another major concern to meet the growing needs of the local population. He also highlighted the need for improvement in Veterinary Hospitals to support the livestock-dependent economy of the region.
Other critical issues included the implementation of solid waste management systems to address environmental concerns and the persistent problem of insufficient staff in various government departments, which hampers the effective delivery of services. He strongly emphasized that addressing these issues collectively would lead to all-inclusive development in the Ramnagar constituency.
