JAMMU: Department of Home Science, Government College for Women Parade Ground Jammu participated in “Everest Better Kitchen held at the Food Craft Institute, Jammu under the guidance of the Principal Dr. Ravinder Kumar Tickoo.. Thirty students from the Home Science Department took part in the Culinary Challenge (Everest BKCC) Season 6 contest.
The theme for the event was “Flavors of India,” aiming to preserve and promote regional Indian cuisines while encouraging culinary tourism. The event showcased the rich culinary heritage of India, with an emphasis on traditional and innovative dishes crafted by young aspiring chefs. This event provided a platform for participants to blend heritage flavors with modern techniques.
The participants’ approach to reviving traditional recipes was highly appreciated by the distinguished jury. The event witnessed remarkable achievements from GCW Parade, where students performed exceptionally well, winning two prizes in the culinary and bakery competition.
Dr. Nitu Sharma, HOD, Home Science motivated the students for participating in the event and also appreciated them for their achievement. Dr. Deepti Salotra and Prof. Tazim Akhtar from the Department of Home Science accompanied the students, providing support and mentorship throughout the competition.
Nousheen and Kamalpreet Kour from the Home Science Department bagged first prize in the culinary competition, surpassing participants from eight other colleges. Meanwhile, Rishita Sharma and Archi Sharma won third prize in the Bakery Challenge. The winners were awarded scholarships and internships worth Rs 1000 USD each to the first prize holders, providing them with opportunities for national and international recognition.
