JAMMU: Government Degree College Marh, in collaboration with Sahitya Akademi New Delhi, organized a Maiden Literary Forum on ‘Poetry Reading by renowned Dogri Poets’, in which well known poets of Dogri language participated. Padam Shri Mohan Singh (Convenor, Dogri Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi New Delhi) was the chief guest of the occasion.
The programme started with the lighting of the lamp and Sarastwati Vandana. The College Principal, in his address, stressed on the importance of organizing such forums for the promotion of local/regional language at National level. The event featured the release of the 8th edition of the college Newsletter ‘AIKYAM’ marking a moment of academic pride for the institution.
Padam Shri Mohan Singh, in his introductory speech, talked about how Literature and languages are reflections of the social, economic, and political values of their time. He added that everyone should feel proud of their language and literature while studying its positive aspects faithfully. He also praised the college fraternity for hosting this maiden initiative.
The main highlight was the recitation of Dogri poetry by the well –known and prominent poets Puran Chand Sharma, Daya Ram Daya, Chanchal Sharma, Lalit Sharma.
Other poets who graced the occasion were Nariender Singh Chib and Sushil Begana. All the poets received applause from the students of middle school, college, alumni, presidium and faculty. The students Anjali of sem V sang the melodious maiden College song, while another group of students presented dance. Plantation Drive was also carried out in the college campus by Padam Shri Mohan Singh and invited dignitaries.
Dr Sheetal Sharma HOD Dogri showcased Dogra culture, Kitchenware comprising folk earthen utensils, schika, etc and also served Dogra cuisine “Quuer” which was admired by one and all.
