BARAMULLA: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Baramulla, in collaboration with the 13 Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), today organized an extensive district-level mock drill at the Showkat Ali Stadium, Baramulla. The day-long awareness event was aimed at strengthening the preparedness and response mechanisms for managing potential disasters, thereby ensuring the safety and minimise casualties and damage to property.
The program was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, and was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Baramulla, Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Raina, Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) Baramulla, and Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) from Uri, Pattan, and Gulmarg. The event also witnessed the presence of experts and officials from the NDRF, SDRF, Health Department, Fire Services, and a large gathering of people from various parts of the district.
During the awareness program, experts from the NDRF conducted live demonstrations, simulating earthquake scenarios and fire incidents. They also showcased their specialized skills in search-and-rescue operations, highlighting their expertise and preparedness in handling emergencies. Equipped with advanced tools such as life detectors, cutters, and safety gear, they demonstrated the extraction of individuals trapped under collapsed structures, underscoring the importance of rapid and efficient responses in saving lives.
Speaking during the event, the DC emphasized the importance of adhering to the chain of command and maintaining effective lines of communication during handling of disaster situations. Minga Sherpa further stressed the need for a clear understanding of individual roles and responsibilities to ensure a coordinated and timely response.
Meanwhile, the ADC Baramulla highlighted the significance of swift and efficient decision-making to mitigate the impact of disasters and safeguard lives and property. Additionally, ADC distributed awards and certificates among the officials from various departments in recognition of their contributions to enhancing emergency preparedness and response efforts.
Earlier, an engaging table talk demonstration was conducted on disaster preparedness where the Assistant Commandant 13 BN NDRF, provided a detailed insight into disaster risk management, mitigation strategies and protocols involved in handling of emergencies such as earthquakes, floods and fire incidents.
