KISHTWAR: District Administration Kishtwar, in collaboration with the Department of Jal Shakti and DIET, today celebrated World Water Day, with a focus on the theme "Glacier Preservation". The events were organised at each Block and Panchayat across the District.
At District Headquarters, District Coordinator IEC JJM Riaz Butt delivered a detailed presentation on conservation techniques and methods to preserve water. His insights included practical solutions such as rainwater harvesting and other conservation practices that can be implemented in daily life.
The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Rajesh Kumar Shavan, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar and Chairman of the JJM Kishtwar, as the chief guest. Shavan emphasized the crucial importance of water conservation, particularly in the face of the ongoing threat posed by melting glaciers. He urged the youth to take responsibility for preserving this invaluable resource, noting that water conservation efforts should begin at the individual level in our homes, surroundings, and communities.
Speakers from various schools and institutions also contributed to the event, sharing their thoughts on water conservation. Notable speakers included Deepali Sen (GHSSS Kishtwar), Parth Badyal (GBHS Kishtwar), Salma (GDC Kishtwar), Payal Sen (GHSS Kishtwar), Tanu Rana (GHSSS Kishtwar), Preeti Devi (GMS Kishtwar), and Mubeena (GMS Kishtwar). Their speeches underscored the significance of World Water Day and emphasized the collective responsibility to safeguard water resources for future generations.
Further, Phulail Singh, ACD Kishtwar, shared insights on the government initiative "Catch the Rain When It Falls and Where It Falls". He urged the community to embrace rainwater conservation, groundwater recharge structures, and other sustainable water conservation methods. His message focused on preserving water for the well-being of future generations.
Sunil Sharma, ExEn, Jal Shakti Kishtwar, also provided valuable information regarding the ongoing Jal Jeevan Mission in the district and its impact on improving water accessibility and conservation. The Water Conservation Pledge was administered among the Participants.
The event was attended by Pawan Kotwal, ADC Kishtwar, Phulail Singh, ACD Kishtwar, Sunil Sharma, ExEn Jal Shakti Kishtwar, the Principal of GDC Kishtwar, students from various schools, and students from GDC Kishtwar, among others. At Block Levels the Block Development Officers, Tehsildars and other Employees participated in the events.
