BARI BRAHMANA: The Annual Day of Savitribai Phule Modern School, Dolian, was celebrated with great enthusiasm along with the birth anniversary of Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule at the school premises in Bari Brahmana, district Samba. The programme was organised under the chairmanship of Sunita Bangotra, Principal, and Rattan Lal Bangotra, Managing Director of the school.
Rasheed Alam, ZEPO (Retd), Department of Education, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, Rasheed Alam appreciated the sincere efforts of Principal Sunita Bangotra and R. L. Bangotra for providing quality education, particularly to students from economically weaker sections. He described Sunita Bangotra as a bold lady and a true educationist with long-standing experience in the field of education.
Throwing light on the life and contributions of Savitribai Phule, the Chief Guest said she was an eminent Indian educator, social reformer, poet, and is widely regarded as the first female teacher of modern India. He highlighted her pioneering role in womenâs education and her relentless struggle against caste and gender discrimination. Rasheed Alam was honoured on the occasion for his services in the education sector.
Addressing the gathering, Sunita Bangotra appreciated the dedication of the school staff in imparting quality education and thanked the management committee for their constant cooperation. She also recalled the guidance and support of her former teacher Surender Singh, who was honoured with the Best Teacher Award. She informed that a competitive examination on the life and mission of the Phule couple was conducted, and students securing first, second, and third positions were felicitated.
The programme began with Buddh Vandana performed by students, followed by colourful cultural items including folk dances and Gidda. Prizes were also distributed among meritorious students and well-performing staff members.
Prominent educationists having good qualification and vast teaching experience such as Renu Anthony- Principal Jesus cares Convent school, Pushpa Kundal from Dr B R Ambedkar Convent School Bamnal, Minakshi Hans from Renu National Hr Sec School Tanda, Sunshine Bala from New Model Public School Kotli Gaga Bana, Neelu Sikh from Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule and Fatima Sheikh Pathshala, Sunita Kumari from Tej Rasila Kids Play School Akhnoor, Kamini Angral from Ashoka High School, Sham Bala from Janta Memorial High School Adlehar were honoured with Savitribai Phule Award for their contribution to education.
Chairperson of Savitribai Phule Educational Trust, Sunita Bangotra, highlighted that Savitribai Phule is recognised as the Mother of Modern Education in India, and her birthday is celebrated as Balika Din (Girl Child Day).
M. R. Bangotra, Retd Chief Education Officer, was honoured on his silver jubilee of retirement and spoke on the life of the Phule couple. Prof. Kali Dass and Sham Lal Basson, Ex-Corporator and President All J&K Dalit Chetna Manch, also addressed the gathering and praised the organisers.
Sham Lal Basson, ex-Corporator and President All J&K Dalit Chetna Manch who was guest of honour of this occasion said that Savitribai Phule was 1st trained female teacher. She received training from Normal School Pune and Teacher Training Programme Ahmednagar.
Savitribai Phule's career was marked by her relentless efforts in advancing education for girls and marginalised communities. By 1851 she and Jyotiba Phule managed three girls schools in Pune with around 150 students. They opened 18 schools from 1848 to 1852. They also founded "Mahila Sewa Mandal"in 1851 to promote women's rights. Phule Couple also established Balhatya Pratibandhak Griha and founded Satya Shodhak Samaj.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by R. L. Bangotra, who expressed gratitude to all guests, dignitaries, and contributors for making the function a grand success.
Those who paid tributes to Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule included Sham Lal Kundal, Er VK Kundal, Sham Lal Kundal, Suresh Kundal, Anthony Khokhar, Pritam Shivgotra, Balwant Kataria, F C Satia, Joginder Angotra, Dr Vijay Shivgotra, Monika Kalsi, Prem Nath, Bhagwan Dass, Nasib Sambyal, Neelam Sambtal Sunita Kundal and others.
